| When investigating climate trends it is important to note that changes occur over varying temporal and spatial scales, and are often non-linear. One can summarize the long-term trend, but must keep in mind the variability within a given temporal scale. Detecting a change in climate is not a simple task because observed parameters often respond to oscillations in the large-scale atmospheric circulation pattern, which have time scales ranging from months to decades. Therefore, one must keep these factors in mind when interpreting time series data. Temporal trends of temperature and precipitation are available for the first-order observing stations in Alaska for the period 1950 - 2002.
