Record Warmth in Interior and Northern Alaska
The synoptic conditions during the last few days in September and early October gave the perfect conditions for record warmth in interior and northern Alaska. A deep low pressure system moving north through western Alaska and a high over the Yukon Territory in Canada gave rise to strong, southerly surface winds for central Alaska. This pattern set up a chinook event with downsloping winds coming off the Alaska Range. These chinook events that occur during the autumn and winter are known for bringing well above normal temperatures along with strong, gusty winds. Much of the state was under a high wind warning for a period of several days during this event.

Along with record setting temperatures for the four day period of 9/30 to 10/3, there were also several all time records broken for the month of October. An observing station at Dry Creek, located in the Interior west of Dot Lake, reported a high temperature of 76°F on October 2nd. This is a statewide all time record high for October. Previously, the record was held by Kodiak and set October 4, 1929. 		New all time October records (°F):
