Observing Stations - RAWS
In many of the western states of the U.S., there are Remote Automated Weather Stations, or RAWS, deployed to aid in the monitoring of fire danger and assist fire managers. A number of agencies contribute to the operation of these weather stations, including the Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, and National Park Service, among others.
RAWS stations number almost 1,500 in the U.S. and have instrumentation to observe such weather parameters as temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction and precipitation. Some sites even measure soil moisture as well as fuel moisture and temperature.

There are 105 stations in Alaska with various record lengths. For archived data, visit the Western Regional Climate Center. In addition, current conditions for RAWS stations in Alaska are displayed graphically.

More information on the RAWS network can be found here.
