Fairbanks December 2015

December in Fairbanks was warmer than normal, with a monthly mean temperature of -2.2°F, 1.9°F above the normal of -4.1°F. The highest temperature for the month was 45°F on 30th, which also set a record for that day, breaking the old 1982 record by 10°F. The high of 40°F the next day also set a new record, toping the 39°F from 1969. The lowest temperature for the month occurred on Christmas day, the 25th, at -29°F.

Precipitation was less than normal with just 0.07" of precipitation measured, and 0.64" is normal. Snowfall was also much lighter than normal, with a mere 9% of the 12.1" normally expected with 1.1" of snowfall measured. The highest wind speed was 30 mph from a northerly direction on the 17th. The average wind speed was 2.2 mph.

Anchorage December 2015

December's mean monthly temperature for Anchorage was 21.5°F, 2.5°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 46°F on the 29th, which tied the record for the day set in 1967. The next day, the 30th, a temperature of 45°F was observed, breaking the record for that day set in 2000 by 1°F. The lowest temperature for the month was 4°F on the 6th. This was also the 2nd warmest year on record after 2014.

 

Precipitation was lighter than normal, at 0.23", 0.88" below normal. Additionally snowfall was a mere 16% of normal with 2.6" measured and 16.7" normally expected. The average wind speed was 5.3 mph, while the highest wind speed was 48 mph on the 30th from a southerly direction.

Barrow December 2015

Barrow had a mean monthly temperature of -10.6°F this December, 2.8°F below the normal of -7.8°F normal. The highest temperature for the month occurred on the 17th at 17°F, while the lowest, -36°F, occurred on the 25th, Christmas day.

Precipitation was measured at mere 0.04", 29% of the expected 0.14". Snowfall was near normal with 3.3" measured and 3.5" expected. Despite the slightly lower than normal snowfall, on the 17th 1.3" of snow was recorded, breaking the record for that day of 1.1" set back in 1923. The average wind speed was 12.3 mph, while the highest wind speed was 36 mph from an easterly direction on the 15th.

Delta Junction December 2015

Delta Junction's December mean monthly temperature was 2.9°F, 0.8°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 45°F on the 30th, while the lowest was -23.0°F on the 24th.

Precipitation was lighter than normal with 0.07" of precipitation and 0.38" was expected.

Juneau December 2015

Juneau had a mean monthly temperature of 32.0°F this December, 2.1°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 43°F on the 1st, while the lowest temperature was 12°F on Christmas day. This was also the warmest year on record, with a mean temperature of 44.5°F, breaking the old record set in 1993 by 0.3°F.

Precipitation was light with 2.42" of precipitation measured, 3.42" below normal. Snowfall was near normal with 16.3" of snow measured, just 0.7" above normal. Contributing to the higher than normal snowfall was the 6.6" that fell on the 26th, which set a record for that day, breaking the old record set in 2008, by 0.2". The average wind speed was 6.7 mph, while the highest wind speed was 47 mph on the 31st from a southeasterly direction.

Ketchikan December 2015

Ketchikan was warmer than normal this December, with a mean monthly temperature of 36.6°F, with 35.3°F expected. The highest temperature for the month was 49°F observed on both the 5th and 6th, while the lowest temperature was 22°F on the 25th.

Precipitation was less than normal, with 9.93" of precipitation measured, 4.30" below normal.

King Salmon December 2015

The average wind speed was 11.4 mph, while the highest wind speed was 80 mph on the 30th, from a southeasterly direction.

Kodiak December 2015

Kodiak had a mean monthly temperature of 34.6°F this December, 3.4°F above the normal of 31.2°F. The highest temperature for the month was 45°F on the 29th, while the lowest was 14°F on the 13th.

Precipitation was 141% of normal, with 12.28" of precipitation measured and 8.73" expected. Contributing to this was the 1.35" that was observed on the 1st, breaking the record for that day by 0.20", set back in 1985. Nome December 2015

December in Nome had a mean monthly temperature of 11.5°F, 2.0°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 38°F on the 30th, which also set a new record for that day, surpassing the old record of 1985 by 2°F. The lowest temperature for the month was -17°F on the 23rd.
