Fairbanks November 2013

The November mean temperature for Fairbanks was 3.5°F above its long-term mean of 2.6°F, with an average of 6.1°F. The warmest temperature for the month was recorded at 45°F during the storm on the 14th, and this is a new daily record, shattering the old record of 40°F that had been in place since 1908. On the 31st the monthly low of ‑33°F was recorded.

Precipitation in Fairbanks was heavy at 1.74", 160% above the normal amount of 0.67", making this the 5th wettest November in 99 years. The total precipitation of 0.62" on the 13th is a new record, topping out the 0.53" from 1950. Snowfall was also a bit heavy at 17.6", 33% above normal. The mean wind speed was a low 3.0 mph, while the highest wind gust was 55 mph, blowing from an easterly direction during the storm on the 14th.

Anchorage November 2013

Anchorage recorded a mean temperature for November of 21.9°F, which is 0.3°F below the expected temperature of 22.2°F. The highest temperature of 43°F was measured on the 1st, while the lowest was -9°F and occurred on the 30th.

Precipitation was measured at 1.94", 167% of the normal of 1.16". On the 10th, 1.27" of precipitation fell, breaking the 1981 record of 0.77". This was also a new precipitation record for any single day for the month of November, topping the 1.16" that fell on November 18th, 1964. Snowfall was low at 11.2", 85% of the expected amount. The mean monthly wind speed was 6.3 mph and the greatest wind gust of 40 mph was observed on the 10th, blowing from a southerly direction.

Barrow November 2013

Barrow observed a mean temperature of 7.5°F for the month, 6.8°F above normal. A nice 35°F was the highest temperature recorded this November, which occurred on the 9th and 10th. The high of 35°F on the 9th was a new daily record, breaking the old high of 32°F set in 1978. Meanwhile on the 21st, the coolest temperature for the month was observed at -19°F. Temperatures tended to stay well above normal amounts for most of the first half of the month.

Precipitation totaled 0.42", double the normal of 0.21". Trace amounts of precipitation, or more, were measured on 29 days of the month. The mean monthly wind speed was recorded as 15.9 mph with the highest gust (48 mph) measured on the 11th, blowing from a westerly direction.

Delta Junction November 2013

Delta Junction's mean temperature for November was 6.3°F, just 0.1°F above normal. Temperatures were mixed throughout the month. A balmy 34°F was the high temperature for this month, which occurred on the 14th. A chilly -38°F on the 20th was the coldest temperature for the month, and this constitutes a new daily record, just breaking the 1993 low of -37°F.

Precipitation was 0.96", 52% above of the normal amount of 0.63". A total of 0.41" fell on the 10th, new daily record, breaking the 1994 record of 0.31".

Juneau November 2013

Juneau had a mean temperature of 30.4°F in November, 3.0°F below normal. The warmest temperature of the month was recorded on the 1st at 45°F, while the coldest temperature occurred on the 19th at 8°F.

Precipitation for Juneau was 6.69", or 12% above the normal amount. Record rainfall was recorded on the 6th with 0.84", topping the 1955 record of 0.77". Snowfall was heavier at 18.9", 44% above the expected amount of 13.1". The total snowfall of 10.0" on the 21st set a new record, topping out the 1958 record of 7.2". The monthly mean wind speed was calculated as 6.0 mph, with a maximum gust of 46 mph on the 22nd, blowing from an easterly direction.

Ketchikan November 2013

Ketchikan was slightly too warm in November, 1.0°F above the expected temperature of 38.4°F. The highest temperature for the month was recorded on the 6th at 50°F, while the lowest temperature (17°F) occurred on the 19th.

The precipitation was measured as 15.76", just 5% below the expected amount of 16.63". The total rainfall of 4.39 on the 27th is a new daily record, breaking the 1989 total of 3.54.

King Salmon November 2013

The mean monthly temperature for November in King Salmon was 25.1°F, 2.2°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 49°F, recorded on the 2nd and 3rd. The monthly low was -8°F set on the 30th. Temperatures stayed above normal for the first half of the month.

Precipitation was heavy at 2.61", 88% above expected amount of 1.39". The daily precipitation equivalent total on the 21st of 0.48" broke the record of 0.31 from 2003. The snowfall total that day (5.1") also shattered a 1956 record of 0.9". On the 23rd a total of 3.6 of snow fell, tying the 1991 record. The total monthly snowfall was 11.6", 6.9" above normal. The mean monthly wind speed was calculated as 8.2 mph, with a high wind gust of 36 mph, occurring on the 23rd, and blowing from a southerly direction.

Kodiak November 2013

Kodiak's mean monthly temperature for November of 36.1°F was 2.2°F above normal. Temperatures stayed above normal for most of the month, except for cold spells around the 19th and at the end of the month. On the 14th a high temperature of 59°F was recorded, the highest this month, and a new daily record, which smashed the old high of 54°F from 1986. The high of 54°F record on the 13th shattered the 1986 record of 48°F. Finally, the high of 50°F on the 15th just topped out the old record of 49°F, also set 1986. The coldest temperature occurred on the 19th, at 16°F, tying the low for the day reached in 2007 and 1974.

Precipitation was low with a total of 3.60", only 52% of the normal of 6.87". Snowfall totaled 7.3", 14% above the normal of 6.4". The mean monthly wind speed was calculated as 9.3 mph; the highest gust occurred on the 16th at 53 mph, blowing from a westerly direction.

Nome November 2013

Nome's mean temperature for November was 18.8°F, 1.9°F above the normal amount of 16.9°F. Temperatures stayed above normal for the first half of the month. The highest temperature was observed on the 9th, at 40°F. The coldest occurred with a low of -9°F on the 20th.

Precipitation was a heavy and totaled 1.68", 138% above the normal amount of 1.22". A total of 0.37" of precipitation fell on the 13th, breaking the 2000 record of 0.34". Snowfall was also a bit heavy at 13.0", 107% of the normal 12.1". Mean monthly wind speed was calculated as 10.3 mph and the highest gust was recorded on the 9th at 52 mph, blowing from a westerly direction.
