Fairbanks June 2015

Fairbanks' mean monthly temperature was recorded as 59.8°F, 0.6°F below the normal 60.4°F.  The coldest temperature for the month was 37°F, which occurred on the 1st and 13th.  The warmest temperature was 85°F on the 15th and 19th.

The 1.03” of precipitation that was measured for the month was just 75% of the expected amount. The highest wind speed was 29 mph from a southerly direction on the 5th, while the average wind speed was 4.8 mph.

Anchorage June 2015

Anchorage's mean monthly temperature for June was 59.5°F, 4.3°F above the long-term mean of 55.2°F. This is a record high for June, just topping the 59.4°F from 1958. The highest temperature for the month was 83°F on the 15th and 16th, each a new daily record high. On the 15th, the old record had been 82°F from 1969, while for the 16th, the previous record had been set two years ago at 79°F. The coldest temperature was 46°F on the 10th.

The precipitation for the month was 0.93", just 0.04" below average. 0.40" of precipitation fell on the 2nd, setting a new daily record for that day, beating the old record, set in 2013, by 0.02". The mean wind speed was 7.7 mph, while the highest wind speed was 38 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 30th.

Barrow June 2015

June's mean monthly temperature for Barrow was recorded at 40.1°F, 4.5°F above normal. This is a new high mean monthly temperature, breaking the old record of 39.0°F set just two years ago. The highest temperature was 67°F on the 19th, which broke the daily record for that day, set in 1991, by 1°F. In addition, the high of 53°F on the 7th broke the 1992 record of 52°F. The coldest temperature for the month was 25°F on the 1st and 4th.

Precipitation was heavier than normal with 0.84" measured for the month, 0.52" more than normal. The total precipitation of 0.16" on the 14th just topped the 1969 record for that day of 0.14". Also, the 0.9" of snow that fell on the 5th broke the previous record of 0.3", also from 1969. The average wind speed for the month was 9.7 mph, while the highest wind speed was 33 mph from a northeasterly direction on the 5th.

Delta Junction June 2015

Delta Junction's mean monthly temperature was 0.6°F above the long-term mean, with a value of 58.2°F recorded. The coldest temperature was 32°F on the 1st, while the warmest was 82°F on the 19th.

Precipitation was much lighter (62%) than normal with 1.43” recorded, compared to the 2.31" expected for the month.

Juneau June 2015

June’s mean monthly temperature for Juneau was recorded at 57.0°F, 2.4°F above the long-term mean of 54.6°F. The highest temperature for the month was 81°F, occurring on the 15th. The lowest temperature for the month was 43°F occurring on both the 9th and 13th.

Precipitation was heavy at 144% of the normal amount, with 4.66” measured, and 3.24” expected. The average wind speed was 6.8 mph, while the highest was 42 mph blowing from a southeasterly direction on the 26th.

Ketchikan June 2015

The mean monthly June temperature for Ketchikan was recorded at 57.8°F, 3.7°F above the long-term mean. The highest temperature for the month was 78°F on the 14th, while the lowest was 43°F on the 8th.

The precipitation for June was just 83% of its normal, with 5.51” measured, and 6.60” normally expected. 

King Salmon June 2015

King Salmon’s monthly mean temperature of 56.4°F was 4.9°F above normal. This is the warmest June on record for King Salmon, breaking the old record of 55.3°F from just two years ago. The lowest temperature for the month occurred on the 8th at 40°F, while the highest, 86°F, occurred on the 15th and 16th, both new records. A total of six record daily highs helped to set the new monthly record. First, the 14th hit 82°F, breaking the 1969 record of 80°F. Then the 15th reached 86°F, breaking the 1936 record of 84°F. The next day 86°F was hit again, topping the 84°F also from 1936. The following day the 85°F broke the 82°F from 1962. The high of 77°F on the 19th just topped the 76°F from 2007. Four days later the 75°F tied the 1997 record.

Precipitation was lighter than normal, with 0.84” for the month measured, nearly half of the long-term normal of 1.65”. The average wind speed was 7.8 mph, while the highest wind speed was 34 mph on the 10th blowing from a southwesterly direction.

Kodiak June 2015

Kodiak’s mean monthly temperature for June was 54.4°F, 4.7°F over the long-term mean. The highest temperature for the month was 80°F, occurring on the 16th, a new daily record, breaking the old record from 1939 by 2°F. The high of 70°F on the 13th was also a new high, topping the 68°F from 2003, while the high of 77°F on the 18th broke the 75°F record from 1936. The lowest temperatures was 38°F on the 7th.

Precipitation was light: a total of 3.08" were measured for June, nearly half of the long-term normal of 5.91". The average wind speed for the month was 7.8 mph, while the fastest wind speed was 36 mph, blowing from a northeasterly direction on the 25th.

Nome June 2015

June’s mean monthly temperature in Nome was recorded as 47.4°F, just 0.4°F under the long-term mean of 47.8°F. The lowest temperature for the month was 30°F occurring on the 11th, while the highest was a nice 79°F on the 19th.

Precipitation was lighter than normal, with 0.66" measured, 67% of the normal amount. Trace snowfall was recorded just on the 8th, while 0.3” is the long-term normal. The average wind speed was 9.6 mph while the greatest wind speed was 39 mph occurring on the 3rd, blowing from a northeasterly direction.
