Fairbanks July 2014

July for Fairbanks was slightly cooler than normal, a monthly mean of 61.0°F observed, 1.5°F below the 62.5°F normal. The highest temperature for the month was 87°F on the 6th, while the lowest was 39°F on the 26th

5.78" of precipitation was observed in July, 168% more than the normal of 2.16". It was the second wettest July on record for Fairbanks, just behind the 5.96" from 2003, and following a record wet June. Part of this was due to the 1.92" that fell on the 1st of the month, utterly smashing the 1935 record of 0.65" for the day. The average wind speed was 4.6 mph, while the greatest wind gust was 38 mph from a southwesterly direction on the 14th.

Anchorage July 2014

In July Anchorage had an observed temperature of 59.8°F, 1.0°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 76°F on the 3rd and 4th, while the lowest was 47°F which occurred twice, once on the 15th and then later on the 27th.

A precipitation total of 3.23" was observed, 77% more than the normal of 1.83". The average wind speed was 6.3 mph, while the greatest wind gust was 39 mph from a southerly direction on the 13th.

 

Barrow July 2014

Barrow had a monthly mean temperature of 38.0°F in July, 2.9°F below the expected value. The warmest temperature for the month was 58°F on the 16th, while the lowest temperature was 29°F the day before on the 15th

Precipitation was near normal with 1.01" observed for July, a mere 0.03" above normal. However there was 0.9" of snowfall, with 0.7" falling on the 24th, setting a record for the day, and breaking the old 1945 record of 0.6". The average wind speed was 11.4 mph, while the greatest wind speed was 40 mph on 21st, from a southwesterly direction.

Delta Junction July 2014

Delta Junction was slightly colder than normal in July, with a monthly mean temperature of 58.4°F observed, 1.8°F below the 60.2°F normal. The lowest temperature was 43°F on the 20th, while the highest was 81°F on the 5th

Precipitation was lighter than normal with 1.66" recorded, while 2.68" was expected, and was just 62% of the normal amount.

Juneau July 2014

Juneau in July was 0.5°F warmer than expected with a mean monthly temperature of 57.4°F observed. The highest temperature was 72°F on the 6th, while the lowest was 45°F on the 31st

Precipitation was 180% more than normal, with 8.26" of precipitation observed, compared to the 4.60" that is normal for the month. This is the second wettest July, quite a bit short of the 10.36" from 1997, and followed the wettest June on record. The average wind speed was 6.3 mph, with the greatest wind speed occurring on the 12th from a southeasterly direction at 32 mph.

Ketchikan July 2014

Ketchikan was warmer than normal in July with a mean monthly temperature of 59.8°F, 2.1°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 79°F occurring on both the 12th and 13th, while the lowest was 49°F on the 11th

July's precipitation was nearly double with 12.89" of precipitation recorded for the month, 96% more than normal.

King Salmon July 2014

King Salmon was 1.5°F warmer than expected this July, with an observed monthly mean of 57.0°F. Despite this, two daily low temperature records were set: one on the 17th with 36°F, breaking the 2010 record of 37°F, and the lowest temperature for the month. A second record low was on the 30th with 41°F, one degree lower than the old record from 1951. The highest temperature for the month was also found on the 30th, at 80°F, which set a daily high record for the day, breaking the old 2002 record of 79°F.

 

Precipitation was near normal with 2.38" observed and 2.30" expected, with only a 0.08" difference between the two. The average wind speed was 7 mph, with the greatest wind speed of 29 mph occurring on the 19th from a westerly direction.

Kodiak July 2014

It was warmer than normal in July for Kodiak with a monthly mean of 57.0°F observed, 2.5°F above the normal of 54.5°F. The highest temperature for the month was 74°F on the 2nd, while the coldest was 45°F on the 15th

Precipitation was about half of the normal of 4.93", with only 2.58" observed. The average wind speed was 6.8 mph, while the greatest wind speed occurred on the 19th, at 36 mph from a westerly direction.

Nome July 2014

It was slightly colder than normal in Nome for July, with a monthly mean temperature of 51.1°F, -1.1°F below normal. Highest temperature for the month, 84°F on the 7th, set a daily high temperature record, breaking the 1968 record by 4°F. The coldest temperature for the month was 33°F on the 25th.

Precipitation was greater than expected with 2.62" observed, which was 0.51" above the normal 2.11". The greatest wind speed was 35 mph on the 19th from a northerly direction, while the average wind speed was 8.9 mph.
