Fairbanks July 2016

Fairbanks had a mean monthly temperature of 63.4°F, 0.9°F above the normal of 62.5°F. The highest temperature for the month was 88°F on both the 13th and 14th. The high of 88°F on the 13th tied the daily high set in 2009. The lowest temperature was 50°F on the 23rd.

Precipitation was over double the normal amount, with 4.97” measured, and 2.16” expected. The total of 0.77" that fell on the 31st set a new daily record, breaking the old record of 0.64" from 1934. The average wind speed was 4.8 mph, with a highest wind speed of 31 mph from a northwesterly direction on the 28th.

Anchorage July 2016

Anchorage reported a mean monthly temperature of 62.7°F in July, 3.9°F over the long time mean. The highest temperature of the month was 79°F on the 18th and the 19th, which also broke a record for the 19th set back in 1986 by 2.0°F. The high of 76°F on the 17th tied the 2002 record, while the high of 79°F on the 18th tied the record from 1989. The lowest temperature for the month was 51°F on the 8th. This month was also the warmest July on record, beating the old record set in 1977 by 0.2°F. 

Precipitation was heavier than normal, with 2.48” measured, and 1.83” normally expected. The average wind speed was 6.0 mph while the highest was 36 mph on the 29th from a southeasterly direction.

Barrow July 2016

The mean monthly temperature for July in Barrow was 43.7°F, 2.8°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 66°F on the 13th, while the lowest was a slightly below freezing at 30°F on the 20th.

Precipitation was slightly less than normal, 0.79” recorded, 0.19” below normal. The average wind speed was 12.5 mph, while the highest wind speed was 40 mph from a southwesterly direction on the 31st.

Delta Junction July 2016

Delta Junction had a mean monthly temperature of 60.7°F this July, 0.5°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 85°F on the 13th, while the lowest temperature was 48°F on the 31st.

Precipitation was heavier than normal with 3.45” measured, and 2.68” expected.

Juneau July 2016

The July mean monthly temperature for Juneau was 59.7°F, 2.8°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 82°F on the 18th, which tied the daily high set in 1947, while the lowest was 47°F on the 3rd.

Precipitation was slightly below normal, with 4.28” measured, 0.32” below the expected value. The highest wind speed was 40 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 23rd, while the average wind speed was 7.4 mph.

Ketchikan July 2016

Ketchikan had a July mean monthly temperature of 60.5°F, 2.8°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 78°F on the 18th, while the lowest was 51°F on the 5th.

Precipitation was lighter than normal, with 4.76” measured, just 72% of the 6.57" normally expected.

King Salmon July 2016

King Salmon had a mean monthly temperature of 59.1°F in July, 3.6°F above the normal 55.5°F. The highest temperature for the month was 80°F on the 12th, while the lowest was 37°F on the 8th. The high of 78°F on the 16th tied the daily high set in 1962. On the 11th, a temperature of 38°F was observed, breaking the lowest minimum temperature for that day by 2°F, previously set in 1973.

Precipitation was 153% of normal, with 3.52” measured and 2.30” expected. The average wind speed was 8.1 mph, while the highest wind speed was 34 mph, occurring on the 14th from a southerly direction, and then on the 18th from a westerly direction.

Kodiak July 2016

Kodiak’s mean monthly temperature for July was 5.4°F above normal, with 59.9°F observed. The highest temperature for the month was 80°F on the 20th, a new daily record, breaking the 1955 record of 77°F.  Three days earlier, on the 17th, a temperature of 78°F was observed, breaking the record for that day, set in 1979 by 3°F. Then on the 18th the high of 77°F tied the 1977 record. The next day the high of 78°F broke the 1987 record by 1°F. The lowest temperature for the month was 48°F occurring on both the 1st and 15th.

Precipitation was just half of the expected 4.93”, with 2.46” measured. The average wind speed was 7.9 mph while the highest was 49 mph, from a northwesterly direction on the 23rd.

Nome July 2016

Nome was slightly cooler than normal, with a mean monthly temperature of 51.8°F this August, 0.4°F below normal. The highest temperature for the month was 77°F on the 1st, while the lowest was 36°F on the 31st.

Precipitation was 181% of normal, with 3.82” measured and 2.11” expected. The total rainfall of 1.43" on the 29th set a new daily record, breaking the old record of 1.21"from 1991. The average wind speed was 9.3 mph, while the highest was 35 mph from a southwesterly direction on the 3rd.
