Fairbanks February 2015

Fairbanks measured a mean monthly temperature in February of 1.0°F, 2.3°F above the expected -1.3°F. The highest temperature for the month was observed at 37°F on the 16th, while the coldest was -43°F, an impressive 80°F difference between the highest and coldest temperature of the month.

Precipitation was near average with 0.48" observed, 0.06" above normal. Just 4.0” or 49% of normal snowfall were measured as 8.1" are normally observed for the month. The average wind speed was a mere 1.7 mph, with a highest wind speed for the month of 50 mph, from a westerly direction on the 28th.

Anchorage February 2015

Anchorage's February monthly mean temperature was recorded at 24.1°F, 3.9°F above the 20.2°F normal. The warmest temperature for the month was 47°F on the 22nd while the coldest was the 0°F observed on the 5th.

Precipitation was near normal with 0.71" observed just 0.01" below normal. A new daily record was set on the 21st, with the 0.14" measured, breaking the old 1968 record for that day by 0.03". Snowfall however was just 10% of normal with 1.1" measured, compared to the 10.9" that was expected. The average wind speed was 6.1 mph, with a highest wind speed this month of 56 mph from a northeasterly direction on the 6th.

Barrow February 2015

February's mean monthly temperature for Barrow was observed at -6.6°F a substantial deviation of 7.6°F above the -14.2°F normal. The highest temperature for the month was observed on the 27th at 30°F, tying the daily record for this date set date back in 1962, while the lowest was a chilly -36°F on the 5th.

Precipitation was higher than normal with 0.31" observed, 0.17" above the expected 0.14". The precipitation equivalent of 0.08” on the 26th tied the daily record from 1951. Snowfall was also higher with 3.7" of snow measured, 142% of the 2.6" normally accumulated. Barrow's average wind speed was 13.8 mph, with a highest speed of 43 mph, from a southwesterly direction, on the 25th.

Delta Junction February 2015

 

 

 

Delta Junction's mean monthly temperature for February was 2.2°F above normal, with 7.1°F observed. The highest temperature observed for the month was 45°F on both the 16th and 17th. The 47°F high on the 16th tied the daily record from 1942. The coldest was 86°F colder, with -41°F observed on the 7th.

Precipitation was less than normal, with 0.19" observed for the month, 0.09" below the 0.28 normal. Despite this, on the 23rd a new record for the day was set, with 0.17" of precipitation measured, 0.02" higher than the old 1987 record.

Juneau February 2015

Juneau's mean monthly temperature was recorded at 31.9°F, 1.8°F higher than the expected 30.1°F. The highest temperature for the month was 47°F occurring on the 26th, while the lowest was 6°F on the 7th.

February's precipitation was measured at 3.62", 88% of the 4.13" normally expected. Snowfall was also less than normal with 10.3" of snow recorded, just 61% of the expected 16.8". The average wind speed was 7.2 mph, while the highest was 52 mph on the 5th from an easterly direction.

Ketchikan February 2015

Ketchikan observed a temperature of 40.2°F for February, 4.4°F above the expected 35.8°F. The highest temperature for the month was 51°F, occurring on the 12th, 13th, and 27th, while the lowest was 27°F on the 7th.

Precipitation was higher than normal with 12.81" measured or 122% of the 10.53" of precipitation normally expected.

King Salmon February 2015

February for King Salmon was much warmer than normal, with a mean temperature of 26.8°F observed a whopping 8.0°F above the 18.8°F normal. Due to this warmth, three daily records occurred: The high of 45°F on the 20th tied the old record from 2005, then on the 21st, the high of 53°F observed smashed the 1955 record by 7°F, and was also the highest temperature for the month, then on the following day, the 49°F observed broke the 1997 by 3°F. The lowest temperature for the month was -6°F on both the 7th and 8th.

Precipitation was lighter than normal, with 0.27" of precipitation measured, 0.49" below normal. Similarly, snowfall was lighter than normal as well with 2.0" of snow measured, 4.0" below normal. The average wind speed was 11.9 mph, with a highest wind speed of 68 mph blowing from an easterly direction on the 20th.

Kodiak February 2015

 

 

 

Kodiak observed a mean monthly temperature of 35.5°F in February, 4.7°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 45°F occurring on the 16th, 22nd and 28th, while the lowest was 17°F on the 9th. The high of 45°F on the 22nd tied the 1987 record.

Precipitation was 143% of normal with 8.79" measured. On the 20th 2.32" of precipitation was recorded, breaking the old 1977 record for that day by 0.32". Snowfall however was lighter than normal, partially due to the warmer than normal temperatures, with 10.2" of snow recorded, just 68% of the 15.1" normally expected. The average wind speed was 10.8 mph, with a highest wind speed of 54 mph observed on the 15th from a northeasterly direction.

Nome February 2015

Nome's February mean monthly temperature was a massive 8.3°F above normal, with 15.7°F observed for the month. The 21st was the day with the highest observed temperature for the month, at 40°F, which also broke the old 1957 record for that day by 4°F. The next day the high of 35°F tied the 1940 record. The coldest temperature for the month occurred on the 8th at -12°F.

Precipitation hit the expected amount with 0.93" measured, equal to the long-term mean. Snowfall was 2.0" less than normal, with 10.2" of snow measured, and 12.2" normally expected. The average wind speed was 9.9 mph, with a highest wind speed of 43 mph occurring on the 28th from a westerly direction.
