Fairbanks February 2016

In February Fairbanks had a mean monthly temperature of 7.9°F, 9.2°F above the normal of -1.3°F. The highest temperature for the month was 42°F on the 25th, while the lowest was -21°F on the 19th.

Only 0.05" of non-snow precipitation were measured this month, with 0.42" expected. Snowfall was also lighter, with a mere 0.6", just 7% of the normal 8.1". Fairbanks had an average wind speed of 2.5 mph and a highest wind speed of 21 mph from a southwesterly direction on the 25th.

Anchorage February 2016

Anchorage had a mean monthly temperature this February of 29.9°F, 9.7°F above its normal of 20.2°F. The highest temperature for the month was 46°F on the 25th. Three high temperature records were tied this month as well, on the 13th (42°F set in 1978), the 25th (46°F, also set in 1978), and on the 29th (40°F set in 1968). The lowest temperature for the month was 14°F occurring on the 1st, 2nd, and 19th.

Precipitation was less than normal, with 0.30" measured, 0.42" less than normal. Snowfall was a mere 1.8", just 17% of the normal of 10.9". The average wind speed was 5.6 mph while the highest wind speed was 45 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 28th.

Barrow February 2016

February's mean monthly temperature in Barrow was -4.1°F, a very high 10.1°F warmer than normal. The highest temperature for the month was 14°F on the 26th, while the lowest was -19°F on the 6th.

Precipitation was 0.85", 0.71" above normal. Much of this precipitation fell on the 12th, when the 0.57" recorded value broke the record for that day, set in 1989 by 0.45". Snowfall was also heavier than normal with 8.9" measured, 6.3" above normal. Contributing to this were the 5.7" that fell on the 12th, shattering the old record for that day of 1.2" set in 1989. The water-equivalent of the snow as well as the snowfall were also the greatest single day amounts ever received for any day in February. The highest wind speed was 49 mph from a northeasterly direction on the 12th, while the average wind speed was 19.6 mph.

Delta Junction February 2016

Delta Junction had a mean monthly temperature of 18.1°F this February, an impressive 13.2°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 42°F on both the 25th and 28th, while the lowest temperature was -8°F on both the 1st and 18th.

Precipitation was lighter than normal with a mere 0.07" measured, and 0.28" expected.

Juneau February 2016

Juneau had a mean monthly temperature of 37.6°F this February, 7.5°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 50°F occurring on the 21st, which also tied the record for that day. The high of 48°F on the 8th also tied the daily record set in 1968. The lowest temperature for the month was 20°F occurring on both the 18th and 19th.

3.26" of precipitation were measured, 79% of normal, while just 2.0" of snow were recorded, a mere 12% of normal. The average wind speed was 7.7 mph while the highest wind speed was 35 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 8th.

Ketchikan February 2016

Ketchikan had a February mean monthly temperature of 42.6°F, 6.8°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 53°F on both the 9th and 11th. The temperature on the 11th also set the record for that day, breaking the old 1970 record by 2°F, while the high of 47°F on the 10th tied the 1970 record. The lowest temperature for the month was just below freezing at 31°F on the 18th.

Precipitation was much higher than normal, with 24.88" measured, 14.35" above normal, which represents 236% of normal. Contributing to this was the 5.96" that fell on the 25th, breaking the record from that day, set in 1968, by 2.92".

King Salmon February 2016

February's mean monthly temperature for King Salmon was 34.8°F, a significant 16.0°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 48°F on the 25th, which also set a record for that day, breaking the old 1997 record by 2°F. The high on the 29th of 45°F tied that day's record set in 2004. The lowest temperature was 16°F on the 19th.

Precipitation was slightly heavier than normal, with 0.96" measured and 0.76" normal. Snowfall however was less than normal, with 4.7" measured, 78% of normal. Despite this however, the 1.1" that fell on the 18th tied the record for that day set in 1945. The highest wind speed was 57 mph from an easterly direction on the 29th, while the average wind speed was 11.0 mph.

Kodiak February 2016

Kodiak's February mean monthly temperature was 36.0°F, 5.2°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 44°F on the 22nd, while the lowest was 23°F on the 6th.

Precipitation was over double the normal amount, with 12.88" measured and 6.14" expected. This was partly due to the 1.83" that fell on the 23rd, which broke the old record of 2004 for that day by just 0.02". Snowfall however was a mere 1.0", 7% of the normal 15.1". The average wind speed was 14.7 mph while the highest wind speed was 61 mph on the 29th from a northeasterly direction.

Nome February 2016

Nome had a mean monthly temperature of 16.1°F this February, 8.7°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 37°F on the 26th, while the lowest was -15°F on both the 13th and 15th.

Precipitation was lighter than normal, with 0.50" measured and 0.93" expected. Snowfall was just 62% of the normal 12.2", with 7.6" measured. The average wind speed was 9.1 mph, while the highest wind speed was 57 mph blowing from an easterly direction on the 17th.
