Anchorage October 2015

Anchorage had a mean monthly temperature of 40.5°F this October, 5.7°F above the long-term mean of 34.8°F. The highest temperature for the month was 53°F on the 9th, while the lowest was 20°F on the 31st.

Precipitation was slightly lighter than normal, at 1.97" measured, just 0.06" less than normal. Snowfall was also less than normal with 3.1" observed, just 39% of normal. The average wind speed was 4.5 mph, while the highest wind speed was 35 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 24th.

Barrow October 2015

October's mean monthly temperature in Barrow was 3.4°F above normal, at 20.6°F. The highest temperature for the month was 32°F occurring on both the 1st and 3rd, while the lowest was 1°F on the 29th.

Precipitation was lighter than normal with 0.27" measured and 0.41" expected. Snowfall was just 45% of normal, with 4.1" observed. The average wind speed was 12.3 mph, while the highest wind speed was 38 mph on the 10th from an easterly direction.

Delta Junction October 2015

Delta Junction's mean monthly temperature for October was 7.8°F above normal with 31.9°F for the month and 24.1°F normally expected. 45°F was the highest temperature for the month, occurring on four separate days: the 5th, 8th, 17th, and 18th, while the lowest temperature was 1°F on the 31st.

Precipitation was lighter than normal with 0.16" measured, and 0.80" normally observed.

Juneau October 2015

The mean monthly temperature for Juneau in October was 44.6°F, 2.2°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 56°F on the 9th, while the lowest was 28°F on the 26th and 27th. Additionally on the 16th the 54°F that was observed broke the record for that day by 2°F; the old record was set back in 2006. Then the next day the high of 54°F tied the record set just last year.

Precipitation was 84% of normal, with 7.21" measured, and 8.63" expected. No snowfall was recorded for the month, while 0.8" is normally expected. The highest wind speed for the month was 48 mph on the 12th, from a southeasterly direction, while the average wind speed was 6.7 mph.

Ketchikan October 2015

Ketchikan's mean monthly temperature for October was 49.8°F, 4.5°F above the expected 45.3°F. The highest temperature for the month was 63°F on the 16th, which also set a record for that day, breaking the old 1954 of 59°F. The lowest temperature was 34.0°F occurring on both the 26th and 27th.

There was much heavier precipitation than normal, with 30.64" measured, 159% of the expected 19.22". Much of this precipitation came from daily records: on the 8th 7.21" was measured, breaking the old 1974 record for that day by 0.72", on the 9th 3.66" were measured, just topping the 2001 record of 3.36", and then on the 20th 5.38" were measured, breaking the old 1958 record by 0.86".

King Salmon October 2015

King Salmon had a mean monthly temperature for October a whopping 9.3°F above normal, with 42.8°F recorded, and 33.5°F normally expected. The highest temperature for the month was 61°F on the 8th, which also set a record for that day, beating the old 2009 record by 3°F. The lowest temperature was 14°F on the 31st. Two other daily records were set; on the 26th the high of 53°F broke the old record of 50°F set two years ago. Then on the 27th a temperature of 55°F was recorded breaking the old record for that day of 52°F set in 2013. There were three tied daily high records: 57°F on the 5th set in 1957, 58°F on the 8th set in 2006, and 51°F on the 25th set in 2013.

Precipitation was 75% of normal with 1.57" measured and 2.08" expected. 0.4" of snow were measured, while 2.8" were expected. The average wind speed was 9.0 mph, while the highest wind speed for the month was 48 mph on the 26th from an easterly direction.

Kodiak October 2015

The mean monthly temperature for Kodiak in October was 45.5°F, 5.0°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 55°F on the 12th, while the lowest was 29°F on the 1st. The daily high of 54°F on the 18th tied the record set in 1978.

Above normal precipitation was measured in Kodiak, with 13.80" recorded, 5.54" more than the normal 8.26". Contributing to the heavier than normal amount of precipitation was the 3.10" that fell on the 27th, shattering the old record for that day set in 1974 by 1.80". No snow was recorded for the month, while 1.1" were expected. The average wind speed was 10.2 mph while the highest wind speed was 53 mph on the 15th from a northeasterly direction.

Nome October 2015

Nome had a mean monthly temperature of 34.3°F, 5.6°F above normal this October. The highest temperature for the month was 45°F recorded on four days: the 5th, 6th, 8th, and 9th. The lowest temperature was 18°F on the 30th.

Precipitation was higher than normal, with 2.46" measured, and 1.61" normally expected. Part of this was due to the 0.84" that fell on the 1st, which broke the old 1922 record for the day of 0.56". Snow was nearly half of what was expected, with 2.4" measured and 4.6" observed. The average wind speed was 9.1 mph, while the highest wind speed was 49 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 1st.

Fairbanks September 2015

Fairbanks's September mean monthly temperature was 42.4°F, 2.5°F below the expected value of 44.9°F. The warmest temperature for the month was observed on the 3rd at 69°F, while the minimum was nearly 50°F colder, at 20°F on the 26th.

3.74" of precipitation were measured, 2.64" above the 1.10" normally expected. Contributing to this were two daily records set: on the 13th 0.55" was measured, breaking the old 1992 record for that day by 0.06", and on the 29th the 0.74" measured broke the 1954 record by 0.24". An incredible 20.9" of snow were measured, 19.1", or 1061% above the normal 1.8" of snow. This is a new monthly snowfall record, breaking the old 12.9" set in 1992. Two daily snow records were broken; on the 25th 6.7" of snow was observed, shattering the old 1996 record for that day by 5.9", and on the 29th, the same day that broke a daily rainfall record, 11.2" were observed, breaking the old 1972 record by 4.2". This snowfall also broke the record for snow for any September day, previously held by September 13th, 1992, with 7.8". The average wind speed was 4.0 mph, while the maximum was 31 mph on the 10th blowing from a southerly direction.
