Anchorage recorded an average temperature of 48.8°F, just slightly (0.2°F) above normal. The maximum temperature of the month occurred on the 13th September with 65°F, while a minimum temperature of 32°F was observed on three consecutive days: the 26th, 27th and 28th. No new records were set, and the observed daily temperature ranges followed fairly closely the expected values. Precipitation was reported at 0.78", which represents only 26% of the normal value. Nevertheless, mean monthly cloudiness was high (78%) and during the whole month not a single clear day was observed. An average monthly wind speed of 5.2 mph and a gust of 47 mph on the 13th were recorded.
Barrow measured a mean monthly temperature of -9.2°F, somewhat above (+1.4°F) the long-term average. This is the only station of the 8 analyzed, which showed an above normal temperature deviation for December. The warmest temperature of 19°F was measured on the 20th, but 3 days later the temperature dropped to -30°F, the coldest day of the month. The 19th recorded also the strongest wind speed with 40 mph, destroying the surface inversion and bringing warmer air from aloft to the surface. The mean monthly wind speed was 12.0 mph, close to normal. Further, precipitation (0.13") was very close to the normal of 0.12" water-equivalent.
Fairbanks had a mean monthly temperature of -4.4°F, -1.3°F below the normal of ‑3.1°F for February. The highest temperature recorded this month was 35°F on the 27th, while the coldest was -34°F occurring on the 10th.
Precipitation was near normal at 0.40", just 0.02" below normal and 7.1" of snow recorded, -1.0" from normal. 4.3" of snow fell on 6th, accounting for over half of the month's snowfall, as well as breaking the 1971 record for the day of 2.9". Fairbanks had an average wind speed of 2.1 mph, with the greatest gust being 23 mph, on the 6th, from a northerly direction.
The January mean temperature for Fairbanks was 7.6°F, or a considerable 15.5°F above the normal mean of -7.9°F normal. The warmest temperature for the month was on the 24th at 45°F, while the coldest temperature was -41°F on the 12th and 13th. Despite the mostly above normal temperatures for the month, no new records were set.
Precipitation was mere 0.22", or 38% of the normal of 0.58". Snow was also less than normal, with 2.5" measure, or just 24% of the normal amount of 10.3". The average wind speed for the month was 2.0 mph, with the greatest gust recorded at 21 mph, from a westerly direction on the 22nd.
Fairbanks' mean temperature for December was near normal at -4.5°F, just 0.4°F below the expected mean of -4.1°F. Temperatures started cold for the month, warmed up, then fell colder again, repeating this pattern for the month. The warmest observed temperature was on the 8th and the 9th, with 32.0°F recorded. The lowest temperature for the month was a cold -41°F on the 26th.
0.78" of precipitation was recorded, which was 0.14" above normal. 14.3" of snow was observed for December, which was 118% of the normal of 12.1". 4.8" of this total was measured on the 22nd, which set a daily record for the day for both precipitation (0.25" water equivalent) and snowfall, both earlier records were set in 1989. The average wind speed for the month was 3.2 mph, while the fastest wind speed was 36 mph recorded on the 12th, from an easterly direction.
The November mean temperature for Fairbanks was 3.5°F above its long-term mean of 2.6°F, with an average of 6.1°F. The warmest temperature for the month was recorded at 45°F during the storm on the 14th, and this is a new daily record, shattering the old record of 40°F that had been in place since 1908. On the 31st the monthly low of ‑33°F was recorded.
Precipitation in Fairbanks was heavy at 1.74", 160% above the normal amount of 0.67", making this the 5th wettest November in 99 years. The total precipitation of 0.62" on the 13th is a new record, topping out the 0.53" from 1950. Snowfall was also a bit heavy at 17.6", 33% above normal. The mean wind speed was a low 3.0 mph, while the highest wind gust was 55 mph, blowing from an easterly direction during the storm on the 14th.
Fairbanks' October temperature was 11.9°F above its long-term mean of 24.2°F, with a temperature of 36.1°F. The warmest temperature for the month was recorded at 57°F on the 18th and 19th. The max of 51°F on the 28th was a new record, breaking the old high of 44°F from 1959. On the 26th the low of 16°F was recorded, the coldest temperature recorded and this ties 2002 for the warmest low temperature for October. Overall, this was the third warmest October in 109 years.
Precipitation in Fairbanks was 0.59", 71% of the normal amount of 0.83". Measureable snowfall only occurred on two days of the month for a total of 0.7", 10.1" below normal, making this the 4th least snowiest October on record. Snowpack did not set in until the last day of the month and a meager 0.6". The mean wind speed was a low 3.4 mph, while the highest wind gust was 32 mph, blowing from a southerly direction on the 19th.
Fairbanks was 1.1°F below its long-term mean, with a temperature of 43.8°F for September. The warmest temperature for the month was recorded at 71°F on the 10th, but three days afterward, a cold spell occurred lasting nine days. On the 23rd a temperature of 23°F was recorded, the coldest temperature this month.
Precipitation in Fairbanks was 1.74", 158% of the normal amount of 1.10". On the 11th, 0.75" of rainfell, breaking the previous record for that day set in 1991. The first snowfall of the season was observed on the 18th September, with 0.6”. This consisted of the majority of the snowfall for the month. The mean wind speed was a low 4.1 mph, while the highest wind gust was 33mph, blowing from a southwesterly direction on the 3rd.
August in Fairbanks was warmer than normal, with a monthly mean of 59.4°F, or 3.3°F above the long-term mean of 56.1°F for the month. The highest temperature was 85°F on the 1st and 7th, and the high on the 7th is a new daily record, breaking the 1968 record of 83°F. The coldest temperature for the month of 34°F was observed on the 25th. Temperatures were above normal for the first 19 days, and then tended below normal till the end of the month. In terms of the average temperature, August 2013 was the 11th warmest on record (107 years). August saw six days where the temperature hit 80°F or warmer, bringing the total to 36 days for the summer, and breaking the record of 30 set in the summer of 2004.
August was the only month this summer were precipitation was above normal, with 2.02", just 7% above of the expected amount of 1.88". The 0.68" that fell on the 23rd was a new daily record, breaking the 0.50" record from 2003. The average wind speed was 4.0 mph, with the highest wind speed recorded on the 29th at 26 mph, from a westerly direction.
