This September Anchorage observed a monthly mean temperature of 49.2°F, just 0.6°F higher than its normal of 48.6°F. The warmest day of the month was 66°F on the 11th, while the coldest was 32°F, occurring on multiple days: the 25th, 26th, and 30th.
Precipitation was heavier than normal, with 4.21" of precipitation observed for the month, 1.22" above the 2.99" normal. While no daily precipitation records were set in Anchorage, the twelve days of precipitation from September 9th to the 20th tied for the fifth longest stretch of rain after 17 days in 1979 as well as 13 days in 1953, 1981, and 1991. No snow was observed while 0.4" were expected. The average wind speed was 4.7 mph, while the highest wind speed was 37 mph on the 2nd, from a southeasterly direction.
In September Barrow's monthly mean temperature was measured at 33.3°F 1.2°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 50°F on the 7th, while the lowest was 18°F, observed on the 26th.
1.06" of precipitation were observed 0.34" above normal. 0.42" of this precipitation fell on the 2nd, setting a new precipitation record for that day, breaking the 1996 record by 0.02". Snowfall was also heavier than normal with 9.5" observed, 5.1" above the normal of 4.4". A new snow record was also set on the 2nd, when 4.4" of snowfall was measured, completely shattering the old 1925 record of 0.8" by 3.6". The average wind speed for the month was 14.7 mph, with a highest wind speed of 44 mph on the 3rd from a northwesterly direction.
Delta Junction had a recorded mean monthly temperature of 44.7°F, 0.8°F above the expected amount this September. The warmest temperature for the month was 72°F on the 13th, which broke the 2011 record for that day by 1°F. The next day, 70°F was recorded, breaking the 2006 record for the 14th by 3°F. The coldest temperature for the month was 21°F on the 23rd.
Precipitation was lighter than expected with only 0.35" precipitation observed for the month, 0.68" below normal.
The September temperature for Juneau was 1.7°F above normal, with an observed monthly mean of 51.7°F. The lowest temperature for the month was 35°F on the 9th, while the warmest was 63°F occurring on both the 13th and 24th.
Precipitation was higher than normal with 9.31" of precipitation observed, while 8.64" was expected. The average wind speed was 6.9 mph, while the greatest wind speed was 55 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 21st.
Ketchikan was warmer than normal this September by 3.7°F, with a monthly mean temperature measured at 56.2°F. The warmest day of the month was on the 2nd, 5th, and 26th with 66°F recorded on those days, while the coldest day occurred on the 30th with 43°F observed.
Precipitation was 129% of normal with 17.81" of precipitation measured while 13.79" was expected.
King Salmon'srecoded monthly mean temperature of 50.9°F this September, 3.3°F above the normal of 47.6°F. Numerous temperature records were set this month: on the 10th, the warmest day this month, the 68°F recorded broke the 2003 record for the day by 1°F. On the 11th 67°F was observed, breaking a 2010 record by 2°F, and the following day 67°F was also observed, tying the old record from 2010 as well. Then on the 26th, the 59°F observed broke the old 2002 record by 2°F. Finally the high of 59°F on the 28th tied the previous record reached in both 2003 and 1983. The coldest day for the month was 24°F on the 23rd.
Precipitation was near average, with only 0.18" above the expected amount of 3.37" observed. However, on the 4th, 1.27" of precipitation fell, breaking the old 1929 record for the day by 0.22". Only trace amounts of snow observed, while 0.1" was expected. The average wind speed was 8.3 mph while the highest wind speed was 45 mph blowing from a southerly direction on the 12th.
This September Kodiak had an observed monthly mean temperature of 52.4°F which was 3.0°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 67°F on the 8th, while the coldest was 34°F on the 30th. The high of 60°F on the 25th tied the record set in 1989.
Precipitation was 102% of normal, with 7.52" of precipitation measured and 7.35" expected. The average wind speed was 7.6 mph, while the highest wind speed was 47 mph on the 28th from a northwesterly direction.
Nome this September was 2.5°F above normal, with a recorded monthly mean temperature of 45.3°F. The warmest day of the month was the 12th, with 65°F observed, and this tied the old record set in 1979. Two days held claim as the coldest: the 23rd and 24th, both observed 27°F.
2.58" of precipitation was observed, 0.13" above the expected 2.45". 0.6" of snow was expected, but there was only trace amounts recorded for the month. The average wind speed was 8.9 mph, while the fastest wind speed for the month was 39 mph on the 13th from a southeasterly direction.
August for Fairbanks was warmer than normal, with a monthly mean temperature of 59.1°F, 3.0°F above the expected 56.1°F. On the 11th, the highest temperature for the month, of 80°F, was recorded while 30th had the lowest temperature of 33°F.
As with the rest of the summer, precipitation was heavier than normal with 2.29” of precipitation observed, 0.41” above normal. On the 1st, the month opened up with a new record for the day, with 0.89” of precipitation observed, shattering the 1938 record of 0.47”. Furthermore the heavier rain this month helped break the June through August record for rain from 1930, with 11.63” measured for this year, just 0.04” above the 1930 record for this period. The average wind speed was 4.2 mph, with the greatest wind speed recorded at 28 mph on the 29th, from a westerly direction.
