In March Anchorage had an observed monthly mean of 27.1°F, 0.5°F above normal. The warmest day for the month was the 14th, with 43°F recorded, while the coldest temperature observed this month was 6°F on both the 8th and 9th.
Precipitation was 0.70", just 0.10" above normal. Further, the 0.41" recorded on the 14th broke the 1988 record of 0.17. Snowfall was 1.0" above normal, with 10.9" observed for the month. The average wind speed was 5.2 mph, with the greatest wind gust recorded at 45 mph on the 11th from a southeasterly direction.
Barrow's March monthly temperature was -4.8°F or an astounding 7.9°F above the normal of -12.7°F. The warmest temperature was 25°F, occurring on the 1st, while the coldest was -32°F on the 10th of the month.
Precipitation in March was a slight 0.05" observed compared to the normal 0.09" expected. Snowfall was 1.8", just 0.3" below normal. The average wind speed was 9.2 mph; with the greatest wind speed of 28 mph was observed on the second from a westerly direction.
Delta Junction was warmer than normal in March, with a monthly mean temperature of 16.9°F, 2.8°F above normal. The warmest temperature this month was 44°F on the 11th, while the coldest was just two days early on the 9th, at -16°F.
Precipitation was very slight with 0.02" observed, even lower than the mere 0.18" expected for March.
Juneau was colder than normal in March, with a monthly mean of 31.5°F, which is 2.3°F below normal. The warmest temperature observed this month was 49°F near the end of the month on the 30th, while the coldest was 4°F on the 5th.
Precipitation was near normal, with 3.45" observed compared to the normal of 3.78". Snowfall however was lighter than expected, with 6.0" of snowfall recorded, just 52% of normal. The average wind speed was 8.6 mph, with the peak wind occurring on the 10th, at 51 mph from an easterly direction.
Ketchikan’s temperature was near normal this March, with a mean monthly value of 37.0°F observed, a mere 0.8°F below normal. The warmest temperature recoded for the month was 55°F on the 30th, while the coldest was 10°F on the 4th.
Precipitation was 149% of the normal amount of 10.89", with 16.21" recorded. Part of this high total was the 2.14" recorded on the 15th, breaking the 1972 record of 1.90", as well as more significantly, the 5.20" that fell on the 11th, shattering the 1994 record of 1.99".
This March’s temperature at King Salmon was near normal, with a monthly mean of 24.4°F, a mere 0.3°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 52°F, occurring on the 1st, breaking a 1996 record of 49°F, while the coldest was ‑11°F on the 15th.
Precipitation was also near normal, with 0.76" observed, 0.6" above normal. However, on the 14th, a 1990 precipitation record of 0.14” was broken, with 0.18" falling. Snowfall was heavier than expected, with 8.8" recorded or 138% of normal. The average wind speed was 8.2 mph, while the highest for the month was 41 mph, occurring on the 12th from an easterly direction.
Kodiak’s temperaturein March was just 0.7°F above the normal of 32.8°F, with a monthly mean of 33.5°F. The warmest temperature observed this month was 46°F, on both the 29th and 30th, while the coldest was 9°F on the 15th.
Precipitation was lighter than normal, with 3.96" observed or 72% of normal. Snowfall, however, was near normal, with 11.5" observed just 0.2 above the 11.3" normal. The average wind speed was 9.0 mph, with the greatest gust being 53 mph from a southwesterly direction on the 14th.
Nome was warmer than normal this March, with a mean monthly temperature of 12.3°F, 2.0°F above the expected 10.3°F. The warmest temperature was 34°F on the 22nd, while the lowest was -9°F occurring on both the 13th and 19th.
Precipitation was 18% below normal with 0.53" recorded, while snowfall was heavier than expected with 12.3" observed, substantially above the normal of 8.9" . Over half of this snowfall fell on the 14th, with 7.1" recorded, shattering the previous 1954 recorded of 2.7". The average wind speed was 7.5 mph, with a greatest wind speed of 38 mph recorded on the 6th, from a northeasterly direction.
Fairbanks had a mean monthly temperature of -4.4°F, -1.3°F below the normal of ‑3.1°F for February. The highest temperature recorded this month was 35°F on the 27th, while the coldest was -34°F occurring on the 10th.
Precipitation was near normal at 0.40", just 0.02" below normal and 7.1" of snow recorded, -1.0" from normal. 4.3" of snow fell on 6th, accounting for over half of the month's snowfall, as well as breaking the 1971 record for the day of 2.9". Fairbanks had an average wind speed of 2.1 mph, with the greatest gust being 23 mph, on the 6th, from a northerly direction.
