Anchorage June 2016

Anchorage had a mean monthly temperature of 58.3°F this June, 3.1°F above the long term normal. The highest temperature for the month was 78°F occurring on the 16th. The lowest temperature for the month was 42°F on the 7th. This was the third warmest June on record after 2015 and 2013.

Precipitation was above normal, with 1.78” measured and 0.97” expected. The precipitation total of 1.03" on the 6th set a new daily record, breaking the old record of 0.73" set in 1988. The highest wind speed was 46 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 19th, while the average wind speed was 8.0 mph.

 

Barrow June 2016

The mean monthly temperature for June in Barrow was 37.7°F, 2.1°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 65°F on the 28th,which tied the record for this day set back in 1991. In addition, the high of 51°F on the 6th set a new record for that day, breaking the previous record of 47°F set in 2009. Then on the 11th the high of 51°F tied the 1941 record for that day. The lowest temperature for the month was 25°F on the 3rd.

A total of 0.70” of precipitation was measured, while 0.32” were expected. The highest wind speed was 36 mph occurring n the 28th from a southwesterly direction. The average wind speed was 11.8 mph.

 

Delta Junction June 2016

Delta Junction had a mean monthly temperature of 58.3°F, 0.7°F above the normal 57.6°F this June. The highest temperature for the month was 83°F on the 17th. The lowest temperature for the month was 41°F occurring on the 15th.

Precipitation was heavier than normal, with 2.52” measured, and 2.31” expected. The total rainfall of 0.81" that fell on the 11th set a new daily record, breaking the 1966 record of 0.77".

Juneau June 2016

June’s mean monthly temperature in Juneau was 56.5°F, 1.9°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 80°F on the 16th. The lowest temperature for the month was 38°F on the 14th

Precipitation near normal with 3.48” measured and 3.24” expected. The average wind speed was 7.1 mph while the highest wind speed was 43 mph on the 3rd, blowing from an easterly direction.

Ketchikan June 2016

Ketchikan had a mean monthly temperature of 56.5°F this June, 2.5°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 72°F occurring on the 23rd. The lowest temperature for the month was 46°F on both the 9th and 10th.

Precipitation was lower than normal, with 5.25” measured, 80% of the normal of 6.60".

King Salmon June 2016

The mean monthly temperature for King Salmon for June was 55.8°F, 4.3°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 75°F on the 15th and 16th. The lowest temperature for the month was 35°F occurring on the 9th. 

Precipitation was heavier than normal with 2.28” measured, and 1.65” expected. The average wind speed was 7.9 mph while the highest was 40 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 19th.

Kodiak June 2016

Kodiak had a mean monthly temperature of 53.8°F this June, 4.1°F above the 49.7°F normal. The highest temperature for the month was 74°F on the 15th, while the lowest was 38°F on the 6th.

Precipitation was just 59% of normal, with 3.48” measured and 5.91” expected. The average wind speed was 8.6 mph, while the highest wind speed was 36 mph from a westerly direction on the 13th and 14th.

Nome June 2016

Nome had a mean monthly temperature of 49.3°F, 1.5°F above the 47.8°F normally expected this June. The highest temperature for the month was 76°F on the 16th, which set a new record for that day, breaking the old record of 74°F from 1988. The lowest temperature for the month was 30°F on the 9th.

Precipitation was lower than normal at 0.34” measured and 0.98” expected. The average wind speed was 9.4 mph, while the highest wind speed was 32 mph on the 17th from a southeasterly direction.

Fairbanks May 2016

Fairbanks had a mean monthly temperature of 53.4°F, 4.0°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 82°F on the 14th which set a daily high record for that day, breaking the old 1915 record by 2°F. The lowest temperature for the month was below freezing at 31°F on the 5th

Precipitation was higher than normal, with 0.78” measured and 0.60” expected. The rainfall on the 2nd totaled 0.42", breaking the daily record set in 1989 by 0.33". No snowfall occurred, while the long term mean is 0.9”. The highest wind speed was 34 mph on the 24th from a westerly direction, while the average wind speed was 6.0 mph.
