Big Delta September 2010

Big Delta's average temperature this month was 44.0°F, normal for the month. The high temperature was 66°F recorded on the 14th and the 15th. The low was 11°F on the 28th. The first frost in Big Delta was recorded on the 18th, and low temperatures continued at or below freezing until the 29th. Total precipitation was reported at 1.23”, 13% above normal for September.

Juneau September 2010

The mean monthly temperature in Juneau was 50.9°F, 1.4°F above normal for the month. The high temperature was 72°F on the 15th, and the low was 31°F on the 21st. Juneau set four new high temperature records for the following days; the 15th recorded a high of 72°F, the 16th recorded 70°F, the 17th recorded 70°F and the 18th recorded 70°F. The old records were, respectively, 67°F in 1967, 66°F in 1957, 64°F in 1986 and 65°F in 1957. The first frost date for Juneau occurred on the 21st with a low temperature of 31°F, the only day with a temperature below freezing. The recorded precipitation for September was 6.24”, 18% below normal. A new precipitation record of 1.11” was set on the 3rd, smashing the old record of 0.97” set in 1983. Eight days following that new record, Juneau began a series of dry days, culminating in 12-consecutive dry days, the 11th through the 22nd, a new record; the old record was 10-consecutive dry days set in 1973. Winds averaged 5.3 mph at the airport and on the 28th a peak gust of 43 mph was reported.

Ketchikan September 2010

Ketchikan's average temperature for September was 53.9°F, 0.4°F above average for September. A high of 71°F was recorded on the 19th, and on the 15th and 22nd, a low of 42°F was reported. Precipitation during the month was measured at 13.96”, 3% above normal for the month. The greatest one-day precipitation total was 2.93” recorded on the 27th.

King Salmon September 2010

In King Salmon, the average temperature was 49.2°F, 1.6°F above the long term mean for September. A high temperature of 70°F was recorded on the 18th, which was a new record for this day, the old record was 61°F set in 1969. The low for the month was 17°F on the 27th, also a new daily record, the old record was 20°F set in 1957. The first frost date was recorded on the 25th, the low temperature was 29°F and low temperatures continued for only 2 additional days before warming again through the end of the month. September precipitation measured 1.00”, 68% below normal. Winds at the airport averaged 7.7 mph and on the26th the highest gust of 40 mph occurred.

Nome September 2010

The average temperature in Nome during September was 46.5°F, 4.3°F above the long term mean. The reported high was 60°F on the 18th and 19th, and the 19th set a new daily high temperature record, the old record was 58°F set in 1969. The low was 22°F on the 29th and 30th, and the first frost came with a temperature of 30°F on the 25th, and below freezing low temperatures continued through the remainder of the month. Precipitation was measured at 2.09”, 17% below normal. Winds averaged 9.2 mph at the airport and a gust of 32 mph occurred on the 25th.

Fairbanks August 2010

Fairbanks' average temperature was 59.9°F, 3.1°F above average for August. The high temperature was 91°F on the 15th, which set a new record for this date, the previous record being 86°F in 1926. This was the highest temperature ever recorded so late in the summer season. The low was 40°F on the 21st and 27th. A total of 1.46” of precipitation was recorded, which is 84% of normal for the month. The highest daily precipitation total was 0.69” on the 28th. Winds averaged 4.0 mph at the airport and the highest gust was 32 mph on the 17th.

Anchorage August 2010

Anchorage reported an average temperature of 56.6°F, near normal for August. The highest temperature for the month was 68°F recorded on the 3rd, 23rd, and the 24th, and the low for the month was 46°F also on the 24th. Precipitation was measured at 3.03”, which is also near normal for August. The highest one-day total was 1.05” on the 28th. Winds averaged 5.2 mph and the highest gust was 41 mph.

Barrow August 2010

Average temperature in Barrow this August was 42.9°F, an astonishing 4.2°F above the average. The high temperature for the month was 67°F on the 4th and the low temperature was 33°F on the 25th. The total precipitation for the month was just 0.34”, 33% of normal. The greatest one-day precipitation total was 0.19” on the 12th. A trace of snow was reported on the 29th and 30th. Winds averaged 12.6 mph and the highest gust reported was 43 mph on the 2nd.
