Ketchikan April 2011

Ketchikan's average temperature of 41.0°F in April was 2.0°F below the long-term mean. The highest temperature of the month measured 57°F on the 28th, and the low temperature of 30°F was recorded on the 15th. Monthly precipitation was measured at 6.17", 37% below normal of 9.85".

King Salmon April 2011

King Salmon reported an average temperature of 32.6°F, just 0.5°F below the long term mean. The high temperature for April was 53°F, recorded on the 23rd, and the lowest temperature was 6°F on the 6th. Â  The precipitation total was measured as 1.09", 16% above the long-term mean. Average wind speed was 9.9 mph and the highest gust was recorded at 61 mph on the 7th.

Nome April 2011

Nome reported a mean monthly temperature in April of 17.9°F, 1.7°F below normal. The maximum temperature occurred on the 24th with 44°F and a minimum of 13°F was recorded on the 11th. Precipitation was very close to normal, totaling 0.64", only 1/100" below the long-term mean value. A total of 11.2" of snowfall was measured in April, 60% above normal. This included a new daily snowfall record of 7.7" that fell on the 7th, topping the previous record of 5.4" set in 1945. The average wind speed for the month was 7.3 mph, and the highest gust observed was 55 mph on the 7th.

Fairbanks March 2011

In Fairbanks the average temperature was 7.2°F, 3.9°F below the long term mean for March. The high temperature for the month was 45°F on the 29th, and the lowest temperature of the month was -32°F on the 1st. Precipitation for March was measured at 0.15" (snow-water equivalent), 46% below normal. Snowfall for the month was recorded at 2.9”, 47% below the long term mean. Wind speed averaged only 3.0 mph and the highest gust recorded was 28 mph on the 30th.

Anchorage March 2011

Anchorage WFO recorded an average temperature of 25.4°F, only 0.5°F below normal. The high temperature for the month was 46°F on the 30th and the low was 2°F on the 14th. Precipitation was reported at 0.45”, 31% below normal for March and snowfall measured 5.8”, 34% below normal for the month.

Barrow March 2011

For the 8th consecutive month, Barrow has reported an average temperature above the long-term mean. The average in March was -6.4°F, this is 7.3°F above average. The warmest temperature for the month was 19°F on the 23rd, and the lowest temperature for the month was -27°F recorded on the 13th. The precipitation in Barrow totaled 0.28”, more than three times the normal amount of just 0.9” and snowfall measured 3.9”, more than doubling the normal snowfall amount of just 1.7”. The mean monthly wind speed was measured as 8.8 mph, with a gust of 30 mph occurring on the 31st.

Big Delta March 2011

Delta Junction reported a mean temperature of 10.6°F, 3.6°F below the long term mean. The high temperature for the month was 43°F on the 29th, and the low temperature was -30°F on the 1st. Precipitation measured was just 0.04”, 82% below normal for the month. Snowfall is not measured at this location.

Juneau March 2011

In Juneau, the average temperature was 28.8°F, 4.9°F below normal for March. The maximum temperature for the month was 52°F on the 27th and 28th which were also new record high temperatures for these specific days. The old records were 47°F in 1996 and 49°F in 1958, respectively. The low for the month was 9°F on the 11th. Precipitation totaled 1.28", 64% below normal and snowfall totaled 4.9”, 57% below the long-term mean. This was the 4th driest March on record, with only 8-days of measurable precipitation. Average wind speed at Juneau Airport was 6.9 mph with a high wind gust of 49 mph on the 2nd, generated by another Taku wind event that brought high winds throughout the Juneau area on that day, including a gust of 76 mph at the Douglas Boat Harbor.

Ketchikan March 2011

Ketchikan's average temperature in March, registered an average of 37.2°F, 1.1°F below the long-term mean. The highest temperature of the month was 54°F on the 26th, and the low temperature of 7°F was recorded on the 1st, which was also a new low temperature record. Precipitation was measured at 10.05”, just 10% below normal for March. Snowfall is not measured at this location.
