King Salmon March 2011

King Salmon reported an average temperature of 23.0°F, just 0.5°F below the long term mean. The high temperature for March was 43°F, recorded on the 24th, and the lowest temperature was 0°F on the 11th. The precipitation total was 0.10”, 87% below normal levels and snowfall totaled 1.6”, 75% below normal. Average wind speed was 8.6 mph and the highest gust was recorded at 37 mph on the 20th.

Nome March 2011

Nome reported a mean monthly temperature of 10.3°F, just 0.9°F above normal. The maximum temperature reported on the 20th was 33°F and the minimum temperature for the month was -16°F recorded on the 31st. Precipitation was below normal, totaling 0.24", 60% below normal. A total of 4.3” of snowfall was measured in March, 42% below normal. The average wind speed at the Nome Airport station was 6.2 mph, and the highest gust reported was 43mph on the 20th.

Fairbanks February 2011

In Fairbanks the average temperature was -6.5°F, 2.7°F below the long term mean for February. The high temperature for the month was 32°F on the 25th, and the lowest temperature of the month was -44°F on the 15th. Precipitation for February was measured at 1.64", 4.5 times the normal amount of 0.36". The daily precipitation record was tied on the 20th (0.31"), and a new record of 0.62" was set on the 21st. Snowfall for the month was recorded at 30.3". This was the second snowiest February in Fairbanks record, trailing the record of February 1966 (43.1"). 6.7" of snow fell on the 20th and 11.9" on the 21st. Two days of heavy winds and snow blasted the Fairbanks area on the 21st and 22nd causing limited visibility and dangerous driving conditions due to the blowing snow and mounting snowdrifts, caused power outages from trees falling on power lines and closed the northbound Dalton and Steese Highways. This was the biggest snowstorm to hit Fairbanks since 1984. Then on the 25th and 26th, the winds were back along with 5.2" more of snow. Wind speed for the month averaged only 2.6 mph but the highest gust recorded was 53 mph on the 25th.

Anchorage February 2011

Anchorage Weather Forecast Office recorded an average temperature of 17.0°F, 1.7°F below normal. The high temperature for the month was 36°F on the 3rd and the low was -2°F on the 21st. Precipitation was reported at 0.76", 3% above normal for February and snowfall measured 8.5", 12% below normal for the month. Also reported for February was an average wind speed of 6.3 mph and a gust of 43 mph, recorded on the 26th.

Barrow February 2011

For the 7th consecutive month, Barrow has reported an average temperature above the long-term mean. The average in February was -6.1°F, this is a substantial 9.8°F above average. The warmest temperature for the month was 29°F on the 24th, a record high temperature, smashing the old record of 21°F set in 1982. The lowest temperature for the month was -29°F recorded on the 15th. The precipitation in Barrow totaled 0.62", more than five times the amount of the long-term mean of just 0.12" and snowfall measured 10.6", far surpassing the normal snowfall amount of just 1.9".

Big Delta February 2011

Big Delta reported a mean temperature of -2.2°F, 4.5°F below the long term mean. The high temperature for the month was only 28°F on the 25th, a far cry from the 52°F recorded in January, and the low temperature was -41°F on the 15th. Precipitation measured was 0.22", 46% below normal for the month. Snowfall is not measured at this location.

Juneau February 2011

In Juneau, the average temperature was 25.2°F, 3.7°F below normal for February. The maximum temperature for the month was 46°F on the 2ndand the low for the month was 1°F on the 24th. Precipitation totaled 5.65", 41% above normal and on the 3rd a new precipitation record for that day was set of 1.00", surpassing the 0.68" record of 1982. Snowfall was also above normal by a full 70% and on the 19th, a new record snowfall occurred when 9.3" fell in Juneau, beating the old record of 6.4" set in 1982. Average wind speed at Juneau Airport was 9.7 mph with a high wind gust of 47 mph on the 2nd.

Ketchikan February 2011

Ketchikan's average temperature in February, registered an average of 32.0°F, 4.3°F below the long-term mean. The highest temperature of the month was 47°F occurred on both the 2nd and 3rd, and the low temperature of 3°F was recorded on the 28th. Precipitation was only 10% above normal, measuring 12.50". Snowfall is not measured at this location.
