Anchorage November 2010

The Anchorage Int'l Airport station reported an average temperature of 26.0°F, 4.2°F above normal for the month. The highest temperature was 44°F recorded on the 24th, and the low was 4°F on the 30th. Precipitation was measured 2.52”, which is 1.43” above normal for the month and on the 22nd, a new precipitation record was set of 1.54”, breaking the old record of 0.88” set back in 1992. Winds averaged 6.4 mph in November and the highest gust was 44 mph.

Barrow November 2010

The average temperature in Barrow was 10.8°F in November, substantially above the normal temperature of -0.9°F. This is the 4th consecutive month with above normal temperatures. The high temperature for the month was 33°F on the 22nd, and the low temperature was -22°F on the 29th. Two days in a row, Barrow set maximum temperature records. On the 21st, the high temperature was 32°F, one degree higher than the previous record of 31°F set in 1926. The second was on the 22, when the temperature climbed to 33°F breaking the old record of 32°F set in 1926. The total precipitation for the month was 0.82”, 0.66” above normal, which is substantial for Barrow. Precipitation and snowfall records were also set in November. On the 17th, Precipitation recorded was 0.31” (Snow-Water Equivalent or SWE), from the snowfall that day, broke the old record of 0.22” set in 1970. Snowfall was reported at 6.4”, which broke the old record of 5.1” in 2001. On the 20th, the SWE was 0.11” surpassing the old record of 0.08” set in 2003. Snowfall that day was recorded at 2.4”, breaking the previous record of 1.8” set in 1999. The 21st also set a new precipitation record, when the SWE, from a day of snow, ice pellets, freezing rain and drizzle, totaled 0.11”, narrowly edging out the old record of 0.10” set in 1931. The final record for November was 1” of recorded snowfall on the 26th, which broke the 1925 monthly snowfall record by bringing the total to 19.1”. The total monthly snowfall was recorded at 20.0”, and the snow depth was 8”. Winds averaged 13 mph. Whiteout conditions caused a shut down of traffic and most businesses on the 17th November; the highest gusts were reported at 52 mph.

Big Delta November 2010

The average November temperature for Big Delta was 13.9°F, well above the normal of 6.4°F. The high temperature was 41.0°F on the 4th, and the low temperature was -31°F on the 30th. Precipitation was measured at 0.45”, 0.14” below normal for November

Juneau November 2010

The mean monthly temperature in Juneau was 34.9°F, 1.4°F above normal for the month. The high temperature was 52°F on the 3rd, and the low was 15°F on the 19th. The recorded precipitation for November was 7.87”, 2.44” above normal. Juneau set two new precipitation records, one at Juneau Airport of 1.71” on the 4th, the old record being 1.64” set in 1946. The second was set at the Juneau Weather Forecast Office, which measured 2.04”, smashing the old record of 0.21” set back in 2004. Snowfall totals came in at 7.7”, with a 5.8” falling on the 30th. A peak gust of 54 mph was reported on the 1st.

Ketchikan November 2010

Ketchikan's average temperature for November was 38.8°F in coincidence with the long-term normal. A high of 62°F was recorded on the 3rd, and a low of 17°F was reported on the 22nd of the month. Precipitation was measured on all but 6-days in November. The total amount was 16.35”, 0.62” above normal for the month. The greatest one-day precipitation total was an impressive 4.15” recorded on the 12th.

King Salmon November 2010

In King Salmon, the average temperature was 22.8°F, less than _ of a degree below the long term mean for November. A high temperature of 52.0°F was recorded on the 22nd, and the low for the month was 0°F on the 26th. On the 22nd and 23rd, new temperature records were set. The 22nd saw a record high temperature of 52°F and on the 23rd, the daily high temperature reached 51°F (at 1:03am), the old record was 48°F in 1952. November precipitation measured 0.82”, 0.72” below normal. Snowfall was reported at 3.7” for the month, and the winds at the airport averaged 7.1 mph with a peak gust of 46 mph on the 22nd.

Nome November 2010

The November average temperature in Nome was 19.2°F, 2.3°F above the long term mean. The reported high was 37°F on the 20th, and the low was 0°F on the 16th. Precipitation was measured at 1.48”, 0.20” above normal. Snowfall totaled 2.5”, the heaviest snow day was on the 19th of the month when 2.0” was recorded. Winds averaged 9.1 mph at the airport and a gust of 40 mph occurred on the 17th.

Fairbanks October 2010

In Fairbanks, the average temperature was 27.5°F, a full 4°F above the long term mean. This October did not set any new average temperature record. The record average temperature for October was set in 1923 with 38.3°F having been recorded. The 1920's were warm in Interior Alaska, and the only decade that surpassed this mean temperature, was the 1980's. 1926 was also the warmest year in the Fairbanks record, which reaches back over a century. The high temperature for October was 59°F on the 1st and the 2nd, and the low was -4°F on the 31st. Precipitation was measured at 0.45”, 51% below normal for the month. The snowfall total was 7.7”, and the heaviest snowfall of 1.9” was recorded on the 18th. Average wind speed at the Fairbanks Airport was 3.2 mph and the highest gust was 23mph on the 1st. Fairbanks recorded 9 cloudy days, however, 15 days in October, fog occurred in the morning hours.

Anchorage October 2010

The airport station in Anchorage reported an average temperature of 38.2°F, 4.1°F above normal for the month. The highest temperature was 54°F recorded on the 3rd, and the low was 21°F on the 14th. Precipitation was measured at 0.49”, which is 77% below normal for the month. Winds averaged 5.4 mph in October and the highest gust was 38 mph recorded on the on the 27th.
