In Fairbanks, the average temperature was 11.9°F, an impressive 9.6°F above the long term mean. The high temperature for November was 37.0°F on the 3rd and the low was -32°F on the 30th. Precipitation was measured at 1.71”, 1.03” above normal for the month. Fairbanks experienced a rare freezing rain event between 22nd and 24th of November, when 0.95” of rain fell. This is the second greatest winter rainfall on record for Fairbanks, the all time record of 0.99” was on January 20th 1937. This event did, however, break the record for the longest duration of continuous winter rainfall, as rain fell for almost 39 hours, far surpassing the old record of 23 hours back on March 6-7, 1921. This rain caused extremely dangerous driving conditions due to the ice that formed over the roads, closing many businesses and canceling classes at the university for the week. The snowfall total was 11.6”, and the heaviest snowfall of 2.3” was recorded on the 26th. Average wind speed at the Fairbanks Airport was 2.2 mph and the highest gust was 25 mph on the 3rd.
