The average temperature in Juneau for April was 36.1°F, 4.7°F below the long-term mean of 40.8°F. The maximum temperature of the month was 51°F on the 7th, while the minimum was 22°F which occurred on the 20th. The 15th experienced a low of 24°F, and this tied the record set in 2005. Temperatures were varied, but tended below normal for nearly all of the month. April's total precipitation was more than twice normal at 6.37", 3.43" above expected amount of 2.94". Precipitation was recorded on 19 days during the month. The precipitation equivalent on the 26th totaled 1.36", breaking the 1972 record of 0.77", making this the second wettest April on record. Total snowfall for the month was 12.1", more than ten times the normal of just 1.1". Three record snowfall events helped drive the high snowfall. First on the 6th 2.3" fell, eclipsing the 1972 record of 0.8". Then on the 26th 4.4" were observed, shattering the 0.2" from 1964. Finally on the 28th 1.7" fell, topping the 0.9" from 1972. Trace amounts or more of snow fell on fourteen days during the month. All that snow resulted in the sixth snowiest April on record. The average wind speed was 7.3 mph, and the maximum wind speed of 47 mph occurred on the 9th, blowing from a southeasterly direction.
