Kodiak September 2011

For Kodiak, the average monthly temperature of 49.2°F was close to the long-term mean of 49.6°F. The highest temperature of the month was 60°F on the 3rd, and the lowest was 32°F on the 29th. This was the first and only frost of the month. No temperature records were set in September. In general, the daily temperature ranges were very narrow for the first half of the month, and larger than expected for the second half. Mean wind speed was 8.3 mph, and the highest gust was 53 mph on the 5th. Monthly precipitation was heavy and totaled 15.49", more than twice the expected amount of 7.07".

King Salmon September 2011

King Salmon reported an average temperature of 47.8°F, very close to the long- term mean of 47.6. The high temperature for September was 63°F, recorded on the 6th and 9th of the month. The low temperature of 25°F occurred on the 28th. Two days earlier, on the 26th September, the first frost occurred with a temperature below freezing (27°F), ending the growing season. The precipitation total was measured at 2.25", 29% below the normal of 3.19". Despite the lower than normal precipitation totals, on all days of the month, except three, some rain, if even just a trace, was recorded.

Nome September 2011

Nome reported a mean monthly temperature in September of 45.1°F, a positive deviation of 2.3°F from the long term mean. The warmest monthly temperature was 62°F observed on the 16th of September, while the coldest temperature occurred on the two last days of the month with each recording a minimum of 27°F. No new temperature extremes were observed during September. Precipitation was light, totaling 0.90", representing only 37% of the expected amount. 88% of that total occurred on just 3 days: 9th, 10th, and 24th.

Barrow September 2011

Barrow reported an average temperature in September of 36.7°F, 4.6°F above normal, the highest positive deviation of the 8 city summary, continuing the trend of last month. The maximum temperature occurred on the 11th at 51°F, and the lowest temperature of 20°F was observed on the last day of September. In general, the temperatures during most of the first &frac12 of the month were far above normal, while the second half were closer too normal. No new temperature records were observed during September.

Ketchikan September 2011

Ketchikan's average temperature of 53.8°F in September was 1.3°F above the long-term mean. The highest temperature of the month measured 70°F on the 12th, while the low temperature of 40°F occurred on the 25th of the month. Even though the mean monthly temperature was somewhat above the expected value, the daily temperature ranges followed fairly closely the long-term means. No new temperature extremes were recorded. Monthly precipitation was heavy and totaled 28.33", slightly more than twice the expected amount of 13.79". Precipitation occurred on 28 days of the month.
